Prep & AftercareYOUR GUIDE TO A GREAT WAX
To help you get the best results and the most comfortable experience, here are some simple guidelines to follow before and after your wax!
Know Before You GoCHECK WITH YOUR ESTHETICIAN FIRST
If you use any of the following products, please consult with your esthetician before scheduling your wax:
Accutane
Differin
Retinol
Glycolic Acid / AHAs
ProActive
Avita
Benzoyl Peroxide
Salicylic Acid / BHAs
GETTING READY FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT
Make sure you have at least 2 weeks of hair growth (¼ to 1 inch, depending on the area) before booking.
Limit your caffeine intake the day of your appointment. Caffeine and other stimulants can constrict blood vessels and slightly tighten pores, which can make hair removal more difficult and uncomfortable.
24 HOURS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Only use a gentle cleanser
Do NOT trim hair
Do NOT tan in the sun or a tanning booth
Do NOT use self-tanners, moisturizers or exfoliating scrubs.
Waxing on skin that has been spray tanned can lift and remove color from the skin.
48 HOURS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Do NOT use products that exfoliate or dry out the skin.
If you are pregnant, waxing is a completely safe hair removal option! Keep in mind you may be more sensitive to waxing and bruising due to hormonal changes.
Females are generally least sensitive to waxing in the first 2 weeks after their menstrual cycle has ended. If you track your flow it helps to book accordingly.
Time it right! We recommend scheduling your appointment at least 48 hours before any important events where you’ll want to be hair-free.
Aftercare InstructionsFOR 24 HOURS AFTER WAXING
Avoid touching the area
Do NOT exercise or swim
Do NOT exfoliate the area
Shower in cold temperatures and avoid saunas/steam rooms
Avoid sun and UV exposure on the waxed area
FOR 3 TO 10 DAYS AFTER WAXING
Gently exfoliate the area a few times a week — be careful not to over-exfoliate and irritate your skin
Moisturize with a skincare-grade, non-irritating moisturizer after each exfoliation
After about 3 days, skin begins to close over the hair follicles. Exfoliating helps prevent new hairs from becoming ingrown as follicles close.
We recommend using Bushbalm Ingrown Hair Oil and Exfoliating Scrubs to help with this process. Products can be purchased at our studio or on the Bushbalm website using my special discount code!
Heads up! Some lotions, deodorants, makeup and soaps can cause irritation to the waxed area. It is best to keep the area clean and dry.
